I need to add timecode to a project so the producer can give me direction of what he wants included and not. I have tried adding what i thought would be source code using media fx but noticed it doesn’t match the original tape times etc and starts at 22:26:26:20 instead of about 15 seconds in.
What am i doing wrong and what are the settings and procedures to do this ?
I am using movie studio platinum 10 in Pal format if that makes a difference.

What camcorder did you use to shoot the footage?

    Hi Mike, I used a Canon XL-H1

Also the next few clips from the same tape seem to have the right time-code when I use media-fx …………it is only affecting the first clip which unfortunately contains the main 40 mins of the interview

John, I’m in NTSC land but I vaguely recall reading about an issue with PAL and time code if you start capturing from the very beginning of the tape.
Try letting the tape run for at least 5 seconds before you start capturing and see if that helps.

Thanks Mike, I’ve checked another tape and seems to have the same issue…….I will try your suggestion.

Further to this………..it seems that if I start capture a few seconds in (and don’t use tape capture) all seems to be fine with the time-code ……not sure why, but I can get around it.

Glad that it worked for you.
An even stranger quirk is that, if you don’t do as I suggested, your timecode may end up being NTSC and not PAL.
    Figure that one out.
