Timecode Issue
A client has asked for my company to digitize HDCAM 1080 23.98 and deliver to them a 525i29.97. The problem that I have been having is that I can’t get frame accuracy. When I have the character burn in from the deck it does not match the TC in FCP. I have adjusted the capture offset and nothing helps. In fact, without changing any settings, I can go from timecode accurate on one test, to 5-7 frames off on the next. It’s maddening because it messes with the 3:2 pulldown.
Any advice?
I have trashed my preferences, I have made numerous device control presets with different capture offsets and nothing seems to work.

What format are you capturing? 1080p 23.98 or 525i 29.97? Uncompressed HD or ProRes? Or Are you capturing HD as SD? FCP doesn’t do a frame rate conversion upon capture, but can upon output. And 23.98 is NDF and 29.97 can be DF…so there are issues there.

I am capturing SD, 525i29.97. The deck is doing all the down conversion for me. During the tests, I will have the 29.97 character on from the deck and will try to match that to the clip timecode and sometimes it’s on and most times it’s not.
