    If you press Shift-V you can get the display options and in the HUD (heads Up display) tab you can enable “frame time” this will not render as is so you need to enable Render HUD in the render settings options.

    You can also use a text object in an extrude nurbs / Motext object and link it using a little xpresso.
    Get a TIME node: from the red corner choose “Frame”
    then drag in your text spline or mo text object and in the blue corner scroll down to “object properties” and select “text”. Then just drag a noodle between the two and press play. if you see yellow in the xpresso you messed up.
    With this method you will need to make the Text object a child of the camera so you always see it.
