Well the last of the Seagate 1 TB drives gave up and I can’t get anymore for free. There is only one drive manufacturer I even consider now, HGST. My question is there seems to be a new line of drives labeled as NAS drives such as the HGST Deskstar NAS H3IKNAS40003272SN(0S03664). They are available everywhere, but I can’t find anything that would compare them to the Ultrastar variant. Anyone run into these before?

    Kevin,

Those drives you mentioned: H3IKNAS40003272SN must be older stock, drives. The reason I say this is that Ultrastar is now branded “Western Digital”, after Hitachi sold their hdd division. “Deskstar” drives are now Toshiba branded.

That must have happened in the last month, because they are listed on the 2014 line card. Also there website is still up and running as HGST. I know that WD bought them, but I thought they were operating as separate business units.
