  • Time to move on from HVX200a. New camera recommendations?

    Hello all!

Yes, it’s true, I have milked this camera successfully for a decade. As I’m facing a client who wants a full day shoot with 4 hours of continuous footage, however, I’m thinking about upgrading.

To be clear, I have used many other cameras in the meantime. Rented, or in hiring additional videographers. HDSLR, Sony RED, etc.

However, this is my baby. My go to, day to day workhorse.

So my question is, where do I go? I need something with a great creep in the lens when using automatic zoom (no jerky motions between speeds), overcranking, the ability to record up to 4 hours continuously. Also happy if I can get some non-proprietary card to save on.

Looking around the 5K price point.

    Recommendations?

Seems the upgrade path is to the Panasonic DVX-200 – which is a 4k camera.

If I had that cash I would be looking at BlackMagic’s URSA mini camcorder – $3k base price
then add some stuff. The new one takes SD cards AND those new fast flash cards that remind
    me of the P2 days.
