Time Remapping Question (AE)
Hey all,
So I’ve got a question regarding time remapping in AE. First of all, here’s what I’m getting (bottom picture shows frame blending activated with / switched on)Now it looks like there’s really no way around this, I think the issue is I’ve got so much light changing and AE is trying to interpolate the blurry background which I’m not sure its set up to do. But I figured I’d ask if there was a way to fix this.
Also, do you think I’d have more luck with a program like twixtor?

Also, I discovered that if you have heads to the clip ( frames before the actual first keyframe of the time remap) that weird interpolation of the background can be avoided. Time remapping looks for info even before the first keyframe and if there is non then it freaks out a bit.

I use timewarp a lot and here’s some tips
1. timewarp doesn’t work on cuts, so slice up the shots into separate layers
with edit-split layer or magnum edit detector.2. footage can get cut off so first precomp the footage, then make the precomp layer longer and apply timewarp to the precomp.
3. to reduce globbyness with pixel motion, I use:

Looks like you’ve gotten some good feedback on how to use Timewarp more effectively. Twixtor is similar to Timewarp in terms of features.
Twixtor Pro adds some really useful features, like the ability to guide the motion estimation with track points or splines, as well as the ability to import motion vectors (mostly for 3D animation). If you’re thinking about using Twixtor, consider going for the Pro license instead. Demos for both are available online from RE:Vision Effects.

4. There’s a special rule for interlaced footage. Kronos engineers call it jiggery pokery. You have to place the interlaced video in a comp 2x its framerate. This puts each field into a whole frame. It keeps the quality much higher. for example, a 29.97 lower field would be placed in a precomp 59.94 then timewarp applied to the precomp.
