Has anyone had this issue before.

I’ve got a small video clip which I need to time remap down to about 33% speed. The frames themselves are very accurate and look great, but the overall motion is not smooth – it has a judder to it.

Best way I can describe it is, instead of making two extra frames between 0001 and 0002, one at 0001.33 frames and one at 0001.66 frames, it makes one at 0001.25, then another at 0001.50, then jumps straight to 0002. (If that makes any sense).

The result is not a smooth, slow motion, but a jumpy slow motion that looks more like frame blending that pixel motion.

    Any Ideas?

Just as I hit ‘Post’, I had an idea, which turned out to be right. Thought I’d post the answer for anyone with this problem in the future.

The source footage was being incorrectly interpreted as Lower Field first, when in fact it was progressive. So it was taking the info from the second field (which was exactly the same as the first) and using that as a sort of ‘mid-way’ reference. No wonder it was getting confused.

    Problem solved.
