  • Time remap using luminance or control layer

    Hello,

I’m trying to figure out how to control time remapping of 45 flickering boxes by using the luminance of another layer or a script of some kind. Below is a video tutorial I found for scale but it is not exactly what I am trying to do.

45 boxes fill a 1920×1080 comp. I want to be able to animate a ramp in random places around the 1080 comp so that the smaller boxes will be triggered only in the area the gradient lives. I also want the boxes to animate off if the gradient moves out of it’s vicinity.

I tried controlling this with a time displacement but it doesn’t give the kind of control I am looking for. I am thinking I need help setting this up with some sort of control layer or something. Any ideas out there?

    Thank you

First, each box would be a precomp and in the precomp would be a timeline of all the animations that box should do. Could you not then use expressions in the outer comp to sample the luminence at the spot a particular box sits at and then send the play head of that precomped box to the frame appropriate to that luminence level?

Is there a way to do this with a script?

That’s actually pretty simple. Its just one expression. I’ve made and example: 12434_sampleluma.aep.zip

Note that I’m guessing the luma source as greyscale, so I’m just sampling the Red value.
