Time of Day Timecode
Help! I’m using a Digital Rapids Stream card to digitize from an sdi source and then importing into Vegas. Stream allows you to embed Time of Day timecode into the file but I cannot get Vegas to recognize this information. I’ve scoured the threads on timecode and tried all the tricks such as the scripts, the media fx timecode generator, and the “show source frame numbers on event thumbnails as timecode” option. With all these attemps, my timecode still starts at 00:00. I’ve selected the “use timecode in file” option already. Does anyone know if Vegas can handle Time of Day timecode. And should I be so lucky to find someone here who knows if Stream and Vegas are compatible.

There’s no reason why Vegas shouldn’t recognize Time of Day timecode.
Have you tried applying the TC FX to the clip while it’s still in the media pool? That’s the usual trick to getting it to read actual timecode.As far as integration between Stream and Vegas, I’d drop the Digital Rapids folks an email. I know a number of dpsVelocity users who use their cards and have said that the company is very helpful with any requests.

I’ve tried adding the timecode fx to the clip while it was still in the media pool and the result is the same, the timecode starts at 00:00:00:00. Thanks for the suggestion to contact DR, I’ll do that.

Another question I have is when you render out a clip, does it retain the original time code information as meta data or does it generate new timecode beginning at 00?

Very strange. I would’ve sworn time of day would work.
I’ll try it on my work camera tomorrow (it has this feature) and let you know if it works for me. -

First of all, the “Timecode FX” effect looks at the DV timecode – NOT the date/time code. Vegas has no means of seeing that for display purposes although it SHOULD be visible in the media pool details.
The answer to the other question is yes and no. If you modify it in any way, no. If you go dv-avi to dv-avi with cuts only, I believe that answer is yes but I may be wrong.
There are programs out there that will read the date/time and display it on the file, though.

If you were referring to date/time from the DV timecode, then Edward gave you the right answer.
I assumed you were referring to true SMPTE timecode which can be preset to function as “time of day” timecode which Vegas would read.
