would i benefit quality wise by working in the DV 50 timeline with my DV NTSC footage ? or what if I worked in the regular DV NTSC timeline, or if I rendered in a 8 bit or 10 bit uncompressed ? this would not be for the web, just for DVD. The main question I am asking is, would any other timeline setting, render setting, or exporting setting, enhance the quality of my DV NTSC video or compress it less ?

    Hi Jonathan,
If you just export your DV footage as DV50 or 8/10b Unc you only will get a bigger file. No quality improvement.
But, if you use a Chroma Filter (Nattress “Chroma Smoothing/Sharpening”, Nattress Nicer, Apple: 4.1.1,.) on top of your DV footage, a bit of Color Correction and you export in 10b Unc, your pictures will look MUCH BETTER.

..and always a big mess on top of the table.

However[Rafael Amador] “If you just export your DV footage as DV50 or 8/10b Unc you only will get a bigger file. No quality improvement.”

However, if you change the Compressor to DV50, 8-bit, 10-bit, or ProRes your text and graphics will be not suffer the consequences of DV compression and will be considerably better.

However however…do this AFTER you have finished editing. Otherwise you will be rendering every clip you drop in the sequence. Oh, unless you have FCP 6 and a nice fast machine. But typically I suggest editing native, than copy and pasting the sequence into a DV50 sequence and rendering right before you export.
