I would like to output a QT file with a t.c. window burn-in for approval by clients. Most of my projects are mostly an hour or more. I tried using the time code generator filter and found that the render before output was more than an hour. Is there a fast and simple way to accomplish this?

Use Compressor to generate it when you compress the file for client review. It renders MUCH faster.

like original poster, often have to provide a file with burnt in timecode to give to client, either a DVD or an MPEG1. Where is the timecode generator in Compressor? I have looked in the filters tab ( I have compressor2) and don’t see it among the available filters.

By double clicking on the narrow rectangular window near the top left of the screen, open up the inspector and there will be a row of icons in the inspector window. The fourth window from the left will be “filters”, click the video tab and scroll to Time Code Generator and click the box. Be sure to change the color of the numbers to white. Because I was doing a test over color bars and couldn’t see the numbers because they were keyed over the black portion of the color bars. Duh!

Another possibility is to place a t/c generator over your timeline and play in realtime into a dvd recorder. There’s Andy’s Timecode Generator which is a true generator, not a filter.

    Often this plays without rendering.
