  • Time code OSD while recording

Posted by Gary Stone on August 31, 2006 at 5:07 pm

This seems like it should be a user-selectable function, but every time I go into record mode (with tape), the time code display disappears from the video output. (I’m not talking about disappearing from the viewfinder or the LCD screen… the TC is visible there at all times. I mean from the “composite out” or from the firewire ports.) As soon as I stop recording, the TC display returns.

Is there any way to switch this to have it stay on-screen while in record mode? I’m burning TC window dubs (to DVD) while shooting a live event.

    TIA…

    gkstone:

Go to Camera Menu / 7:Display Setup / Video Out OSD. The default is OFF, so you’ll need to change this to ON.

Test before assuming I’m right, of course.

Thanks, but I’ve already visited the display menu with no success.

Since posting this query, I’ve talked with Panasonic Tech Support. They began with the same simple response… until they tried it and discovered the same results: you cannot send the OSD out through the video out or firewire. Can we make this a user-selectable feature? Can we make this a fix through the software update feature?

It is deliberately turned off especially for the firewire output to protect a user error “major f@# up” due to recording the menu or tc overlays to tape or hard drive when this was not the intended result.

However on the composite viewing output it should be an option as this is not generally used as an output for recording.
