Time code in vision
Posted by Rob Done on May 20, 2005 at 3:33 pmIs it possible to burn in the timeline timecode onto the output picture if a client needs it for reference on a VHS rough cut for example. This seems a rather basic function that I’m having trouble finding.

It’s in filters/video/timecode generator. If your sequence has a lot of cuts I would nest it into another to produce one clip, then drop the filter on. You may need to render it.

May 20, 2005 at 4:13 pmThanks guys, is there a way to get the whole timeline/canvas timecode in vision? Using this filter looks like I can either get individual TCs for each edit or (as David suggests) I have to render the whole timeline down to one clip which is not ideal. (Ex *edit user, couple of mouse clicks and you had it!)

May 20, 2005 at 5:32 pmHow about new layer with say a box for the timecode that is the length of the project,
with the filter applied. -

You need to nest your sequence and apply the timecode reader on the nested sequence.I often had to do it for VHS previews and a G5 2×2 manages to play it in realtime full quality. This saves alot of render time. But be sure to select Squence -> Render Only -> Needs render and also do an audio mixdown or you’ll have surprises…
