  • Tilt frame so video looks even and straight??

Posted by Paul Gilmore on April 2, 2013 at 7:52 am

Hi ok so I’m still adjusting the change from Vegas pro to Premier Pro.. now in Vegas when I was editing a shot where the camera ended out being crooked and not even I was able to easily crop a frame and tilt the frame little by little until the video looked even and straight. I tried doing this in Premier however it either goes way to far one way or the other, I can’t figure out how to very slowly little by little adjust or tilt the frame in one direction until the video is even and straight. I’m sure there must be a way to do this but I’m over looking it. Any help is greatly appreciated!
    Thank you for your time

Camerman ended out holding the camera crooked making the video look crooked, I am trying to adjust the video so that it looks straight.

I would suggest using the Corner Pin effect – while it’s made for making rectangular elements fit the perspective of other video clips, you could certainly use it to stretch the frame so that it looks right:

    Hi Paul,

You can simply click on any of the numbers that are yellow and manually enter a value with keyboard, more precise than using a slider with mouse.

So try 1, 2, 3 until it looks right. Sometimes “level” is in between, and that’s ok – you can enter “1.5” for instance.

That said, there is some weird distortion in that image – the bride looks almost vertical to me, while the door frames are wildly skewed. Wide angle lens used that is exaggerating the issue perhaps?

You may need to try Joseph’s suggestion and warp the image into shape!

    Thanks

Holding down the Ctrl key while moving the slider will make it move in increments of 1/10 of a degree instead of 1 degree.

Ok got it. Still kinda time consuming compared to my old Vegas Pro but the quality is well worth it!
    Thanks for the help!

Easy-peasy guys. Go to Video Effects, then to Motion. Scroll to Rotate, and just slide the numbers – it’s very sensitive. You can also type the numbers in if you prefer. Then once level scroll up to Scale, and you can zoom as much as necessary to get a straight edge. Takes seconds!
