    Hi there

I’ve noticed the my G5 is much much loader now that I have Tiger installed. The fans seem to go mad and start to spin really fast making it sound like the machine wants to take off.

Any ideas of whats going on? I really would like to have a calm G5 again.
I’ve check the Energy settings and have the Performance set to Automatic.

    Thanks
    Rory

If you mean it’s got louder, then it maybe because it’s getting hotter, as we are in the middle of summer…… If you move it to a cooler room and it still runs loud then you should get in touch with Apple.

    Hey Daniel

Thanks for your response. I live in the UK so summer only lasts a few days here 🙂 We back in Autumn as its pretty cool here now.
I’m aware summer makes computers hotter and that Tiger is more processor intensive.

I’ve disabled Spotlight (or Stoplight) and Dashboard as my main machine is used for compositing and colour grading and I need all the resources I can get from the system.

The noise is very apparent when I’ve started the machine all is well and the desktop loads after about a minute the fans kick in and start to go mad.

Anyone having the same problems on there Edit system?

    Thanks
    Rory

    Rory,

I’m based near you in London, I wouldn’t say the summer was over yet (I hope), and I know my Dual G4 has the fans working overtime, recently. I’d give Apple a call if they kick in straight away.

Out of interest – what method did you use for disabling Spotlight?

    Cheers
    DL

It could be a problematic installation. if you did an archive and install, i would say go back and reinstall again.
