I’m working in an HD sequence (1280X1080 HD 16×9 — using DVCPro HD compressor) and I imported three different TIFF files of a still photo from photoshop. One had a square pixel aspect ratio, the other had a .9 pixel aspect ratio and the third was widescreen 1.2 aspect ratio. BUT, when I imported the 3 images and placed them on my timeline, all three looked exactly the same with absolutely no difference including render time.

Is there a correct way to do this?

    thanks

In the browser, can you change the pixel aspect ratio column to what they were by right clicking and changing it? I’m guessing all of them are being interpreted as square. What is FCP seeing the pixel aspect ratio as right now?

I’m not sure that would change the final result of what happens in the timeline though. The best option might be to just change the actual frame resolution in photoshop to reflect the desired pixel aspect ratio.

I guess that is my question: what is the desired pixel aspect ratio in an HD timeline?

I use 1280×720 square pixels for 720P and 1920×1080 square pixels for 1080P regardless of what the working format is. FCP has adjusted the image to match the squence.
