  • tiff stills imported as sequence

    Hi,
I’m pulling out my hair. I have project with a lot of stills in it, and they are coming in as sequences, probably because they have similar names. Davinci Resolve will make sequences of 2 to 3 images which are then not included in the sequence in Resolve and replaced randomely by another piece of video.

When I try to force conform it says their is not enough media. I’ve been renaming and reimporting the images one by one, but even then it sometimes does it again. I’t’s getting comlicated finding names that I can still figure out which image is which and yet not have sequences in the names.

Is there a simple solution to my problem? A way to import tiffs as stills and not as sequences.

    Thank you for your help.
    Damien

Sure, just get a good file renamer ( https://www.publicspace.net/ABetterFinderRename/ )
and get rid of those pesky numbers.
Teach tour grapghic people name structure and have em name pictures with Letters , hexa dezimal oder something else instead.
Or just ad a letter behind the name.

If stills are imported as stills they are of infinitive length

    Hi Sascha,

Thanks for your suggestion. Yes I have “A better Finder Renamer” but it will be a lot of work at this stage. Renaming is quick sre but then all the files will need to be relinked. This is a 1 hour documentary film with 3 To of rushes, of all types, archival, shot for the film, stills, animation, etc.

Is there no way, either in Davinci to import tff image as stillsm or from FCPX to export an XML that somehow says theses are still images?

    Cheers,
    Damien

In the media storage options on media page, select the option to show all files. In this mode you can select individual clips in stills.

    Hi Peter,

That sounds exactly like what I need, but I cannot find this option. I went through the Resolve manual but cannot find a reference to this option. Can you tell how to do this please?

    Kind regards,
    Damien

    Yeah, I couldn’t find that either…
It’d be a good option, sometimes files come from other editing programs already used (in my case it’s the subtitles for a feature film, named subtitle_001.png, *_002.png, etc.)

The option is in the 3 dots menu at top right of media storage section.

The “Show Individual Frames” option is a great solution, though I get this problem when importing am FCPXML with stills. How do we avoid stills sequences in this sort of instance?

I pre import my media before loading the xml file rather than getting the media to import when running the xml. So that way you can set the show individual frames when you import the media. When I import the media I choose the option to preserve folders and sub folders (right mouse click)

Once the media is correctly in then run the xml. If fo any reason stills are showing as a sequence, delete and reimport with the individual frames option selected. Fiddly.

Thanks Mike. I was wondering if pre-importing would solve it (but hadn’t got around to trying). It’s not the worst workflow, but also not as clean as it ought to be.
It’s the 21st century, and conforming is still painful.
