I have a TIFF sequence that has been exported out of my 3D software at 720 x 534, square pixels, 30fps, no fields (I cannot export at 29.97).

This sequence is dropped into & animated in an AE comp with the same settings

Not sure why you’re dropping into AE and having AE do nothing with it except make it a quicktime. AE is light years ahead of FCP at scaling and frame rate conversion. Create a comp in AE that is 720×480 29.97fps (fields or no fields) and drop your footage in and render it as a ntsc DV file (fields or no fields). Drop it into FCP and press play and you’re done. No rendering required in FCP, and you’ve used AE to convert frame rate and scaling which it excels at.

In AE I’m not only animating the TIFF sequence, but I’m also blending some layers, adding a few effects, mapping other TIFFs onto the 3D TIFFs, etc. For the type of “look” I’m after I definitely need to bring everything into AE first.

Thanks for the tip. I’ll give it a try.

This isn’t working very well. When I drop the 720×534 footage into a comp that’s 720×480 & “scale to fit” the mapped images get thrown off.

    Any other suggestions out there?
