Tiff Imports
Need some help on a tif import.
I have tif sequences created with embedded Alpha at 1280 x 720.
Basically they are 3 individual layers of an animation that I now want to comp into 1 final product.
When I bring them into a Motion project, the images are being clipped to about half the frame, and blown up to fit the width of the frame. When I look at the original in my file browser it shows the whole picture, but it wont import the whole picture. My preferences are set to “do nothing” on file imports. I’ve checked the files in photoshop, they seem ok both fill and alpha wise. 1280 x 720, 8 bit, RGB. Here is the kicker, if I go into photoshop and give the file a solid Alpha channel, it will import just fine.I’ve tried importing into different comp sizes, all with the same result.
I can do my comp in AE, but it is confusing me as to why it isn’t working in Motion.Any ideas, or similar problems?

It is always best to save your file in .pds as this can contain alpha and layers. Basically Tiff is not the best file format for Motion.
Please make sure your colour mode is RGB not CMYK.
Give it a go and let me know has this fixed your problem.

What is the dpi of the tiffs? The resolution may be 1280×720, but if you have a high dpi, it will translate into a larger file which may be exceeding the capabilities of your gfx card.
What happens when you de-select the “fixed resolution” checkbox for the group containing your tiff sequence?
Are you saving your tiffs as layered files or single layers with transparency?
Are the tiffs RGB?

Interesting, You are correct, I open a file in photoshop, and save it as a psd and motion doesn’t have a problem. I am so used to exporting tif sequences from the animation programs…but I see it will do psd and psd layered. Guess I’ll have to change my workflow

the dpi is typical 72
clicking the fixed resolution doesn’t do anything to the file.
The files are output from an animation program, and are single layers with a transparency -
I am glad you have managed to fix your problem. psd is always better than tiff in Apple Motion.
