Thunderbolt bridge vs 10Gb ethernet connection speed issue…
I need to connect via Thunderbolt bridge or 10Gb ethernet between a MacStudio and an intel MacMini (10Gb ethernet) [Act as Server] but the top data transfer speeds I’m getting is pretty lame.
430 MBps Write
260 MBps Read
(Yes. For some mysterious reason the Write is much higher than the Read…?)
Doing a disk speed test directly on the MacMini I’m getting 980 MBps write and read to the TB RAID drive connected. (And when testing to the internal SSD drive I’m getting the expected speeds more than twice that, of course).
But the best I get via connecting the MacStudio to the MacMini via TB Bridge or 10Gb ethernet is the lame numbers mentioned above^ … 430 MBps Write. 260 MBps Read
I get the exact same speeds when connecting via 10Gb ethernet.
The TB cable is rated at 40Gbps TB3 for the TB bridge and when connecting over 10Gb ethernet I’m using a high quality Cat8 shielded. Only 1ft cable in both cases. I swapped cables – no difference.
What am I missing here? Both TB3 bridge and 10Gbps is plenty enough for the 980 MBps the RAID drive gives to the MacMini…
Any help appreciated.
Thanks.
