I’m pulling the trigger on a new Mac tower and a 5k iMac. What I”m hoping is that I can keep my 2 Nitris’ for IO. That means some kind of pci and/or Thunderbolt 2 docking stations.

Anyone got any suggestions? Also, I have some old external drives that read off e-Sata and possibly a couple of 800 firewire.

I’m using a Highpoint Rocketstore 6428, which gives me eight channels of eSATA III. On one channel, I have an eSATA RAID 0 with 5 eSATA III drives. All this docks to my Macbook Pro retina. Works a great setup, 450 MBps thruput.

According to Avid, Nitris DX doesn’t work this way, but Mojo DX will (using a Thunderbolt adapter).

There are options for expansion chassis and docks. Two different ways to tackle expandabilty. Docks are available from CalDigit, Elegato, Belkin and others. You can get Thunderbolt to FW800 adapters and USB3 to eSATA adapters.

Actually, they announced that Nitris will work on a PCI/THunderbolt Dock…but only as an IO device. None of the advanced features are available.
