I’m working on a project which requires me to go between my system and the clients by bring a La Cie drive to his location. On my system, the timeline thumbnail pictures are fine, but when I open the project on his system, half the thumbnail pix are missing with the “offline media” tag (the clips are fine when I play them). I’ve dumped the thumbnail cache and that does nothing, pictures still missing on half the clips. I used to do this all the time in FCP 5 and it worked. Is there something I’m missing that I’m not getting in FCP 6? Has it got anything to do with the fact that I’m on a G5 2.3 and client is an Intel Mac 2.66? Or is it that the Thumbnail Cache, capture, render folders are on the portable drive ?

Did you quit FCP before dumping the cache? Also try deleting the “Final Cut Pro Obj Cache.fcmch”

[Ashley James] “Are you saying to quit FCP before I throw out the cache?”

Yes, quit FCP then throw out the cache, then reopen the project.

[Ashley James] “Also, where is Final Cut Pro Obj Cache.fcmch”

YOu can do a spotlight search for it, but it’s in your User folder > Library > Preferences > Final CUt Pro User Data folder
