I had a long video clip go offline and it displays media offline. When I go and reconnect the media it finds the clip and updates the timeline on a couple of the razoed portions of the clip, but not all of them. The media offline displays, but the clip is actually there. Is there some cache file I can delete and it will update the next time I open FCP 5? I also went in to the sequnce settings and changed to name only, then back to thumbnail and name….same result, media offline is displayed although the clip is there.

    System details:
    Tiger 10.4.1
    FCP 5 Studio Bundle
    Dual 2ghz
    3 gigs ram
    1.2TB SATA Array

Quit FCP, then trash the Thumbnail Cache. This will force FCP to re-draw the thumbnails when it relaunches.

FYI, I turn off the thumbnails in the timeline here. I don’t need them, I just need to see the name of the clip and when I have very short clips, the thumbnails often get in the way. Also, RT performance seems to improve, especially with longer projects.

Walter, thanks for the reply. I thought there had to be some cache I could trash. Hmmmmm, maybe I’ll make that my signature line in future posts 🙂 I was wondering if this was something to do with my recent upgrade to FCP 5. I even went as far as reloading a virgin copy of the project from before my upgrade to Tiger and FCP 5. Same issue.

I often wondered if the Thumbnails were taxing the system. I have had the occasional hic-up with RT and long projects. I’l give it a shot tomorrow.

    Thanks for your help.
