  • Through Edit Indicators Disappearing from Timeline

    Hello,

I have a problem where my through edit indicators in my timeline (the little red triangles that point in toward each other on each edit) stop showing up on my subtitle templates even though I am not changing the properties of the templates. I see in the FCP help manual that I can enable them but it doesn’t explain where that option or toggle is located in FCP. Anyone know?

I’ve tried pasting the sequence to a new sequence but the indicators do not show up. I am using Text Up text generators, if that’s useful to know.

Bonus Question: My “V” shortcut for select nearest edit isn’t highlighting the edit either. The command still works and allows me to extend the edit but it’s not highlighting the edit. Going back and resetting the keyboard layout or restarting FCP doesn’t work. It just sort of disappears and reappears as it pleases.

    Any insight is much appreciated.

Update: I just stumbled upon the Show Through Edits option, so that mystery is solved. But now I notice that the sequences where the indicators stopped appearing do nothing when I toggle off and on. Additionally, the new sequences where I pasted the subtitles in from the old sequence are only showing through edits from where I’m starting to cut the subtitles in after pasting.

The ‘v’ shortcut problem still eludes me, too.

    Thanks!

Concerning the lingering problem with Show through edits even after you select it from the Timeline Layout Popup, I don’t know what it could be (maybe a bug). The only far fetched thing I could say is maybe trash your Thumbnail cache, fcp is buggy in that realm of timeline display details. But concerning the V key, have you checked in Tools-Keyboard Layout if V is still asigned with that function? (maybe it was disabled through fiddling). Are shift+e (go to next edit) and option+e (go to previous edit) still working? I’d really check in Keyboard Layout.
