Activity Forums DaVinci Resolve Three Monitor Configuration

Posted by Armando Ciurana on November 16, 2011 at 6:26 pm

I have an 8 core Mac Pro with Da Vinci Resolve 8.1 with two 27″ monitors and a Panasonic BT-LH 1760 as a grading monitor. About the arrangement is
Principal Monitor on the left, Da vinci user interface
Second Monitor in the midle: Scopes, and also console messages and Activity Monitor fronm the Mac
Third Monitor: the Panasonic Grading monitor.

My question is: Is there a way to put the image as I see it in my grading monitor in the seconday display on the Mac Pro Full Screen? or at least some two moniitor configuration, for the user interface?

I´m two days new to Da Vinci, and at least 4 Years old in Apple Color.

    Thank You in advance

    Best!

Can I undock the viewer from the main UI and put it in the secondary monitor? is that what you suggesting?

    [Eric Johnson] “The Viewer”

With all the caveats that come with an uncalibrated DVI display.

I was answering the question, not judging how it would be used…. He did mention a separate Panasonic… So I was assuming it wasn’t for critical evaluation.

And as far as filling the 27″ monitor… use the scopes. Way more useful than a full screen monitor, especially if you have the additional video monitor.

All though i see what you are asking for, and I guess it’s a reason you’ve got that setup, I’d advise you to play a little with the setup. At least try it. If you don’t like it, change it back.

In my DaVinci setup I have the DaVinci Resolve GUI to my left, video monitor in the middle, and ScopeBox to the right. I sit directly in front of the video monitor which is my main focus while I work. I seldom look at the other two unless I’m not sure what’s going on, or doing some awesome node magic. Kind of keeps you “in the game”.

i agree with you. most colorist disagree with the video on a computer monitor and a grading monitor at the same time. sometimes clients want to know why it looks different on the one or will prefer one over the other and you gotta get into a whole debate. i on the other hand wish i did have video on a smaller screen just for my own use. it would be handy for drawing mattes and masks and as you say fill up that empty space where the scopes sit. in color you can see the scopes and the video on one monitor and it is quick way to work plus it looks cool. i wish resolve would go even further and allow you to customize the workspace like you could with the old davinci 888’s. that way you can set it up how you like rather than being stuck with what they have decided/ for example i would have the secondaries popup in a new window and also increase the size of the curves window. makes working with a mouse easier. while i’m at my other beef is why can’t the grading on/off just be one button that you can toggle. why would you want individual buttons for on and off? with every update i see resolve becoming more color like and i am happy to say that this is a good thing in my opinion.
