As a native-born New Orleanian, this is a very sad day. A two block wide breach in a levee has innundated much of the downtown area, including parts of the historic French Quarter, with waters from nearby Lake Ponchatrain. The waters continue to rise, unempeded, and this is doing to New Orleans what even the big hurricaine could not do. Unfortunately, New Orleans will probably never be the same.
Thankfully my friends and family are all safe, but there are thousands of people who are not so lucky, and there will be many left with nothing, without hope, and in despair. Providing a helping hand to organizations such as the Red Cross is sorely needed. Thank you for mentioning that…
