those unrecognizable QT files…will it work on other computers?
I’m exporting for archival purposes the longest QTs i can that will still fit on blank DVDs. I’ve changed my settings so exports will not exceed 4500 MB (which comes darned closely to fully filling a DVD), and i hit “export” on my 2-hour timeline. FCP nicely makes the 4.29 GB files, but also makes the “-av.mov” files that are “unknown” by FCP upon reimport, though it reimports the entire 2 hour timeline perfectly…which is way cool. My question is about other computers and future use of these 4.29 GB files. Will these only be readable on a Mac with FCP, or will they be seen as universal QT files by other computers and other editing software? If the latter, I suppose my best bet for archiving is to simply chop my timeline up into about 18 minute bits and export that way, so each are fully self-contained QT files that SHOULD (?) be more universally read by other systems?
Kind of thinking out loud here, but just wonder if this makes sense and if any of you have dealt with this…
Thanks again.
thanks again!
