July 7, 2011 at 7:01 pm…because nothing looks more professional than an edit suite you can fit into your briefcase and buy at Wal*Mart.
Yikes! Just because you can doesn’t mean you should.

July 7, 2011 at 7:08 pmI thought that too… But then I was playing with the iPad iMovie on a long plane ride last week. With just a bit more robustness, I could see really fleshing something useful out with proxy footage.
Might be potential for a good companion program to review location footage and quick rough edits coming from this.

July 7, 2011 at 7:10 pmIf I could plug my EX-1 into an iPad, rough edit on the road and then open that project back in my studio on my desktop in FCP 7… now I’m listening.
Or maybe by then FCP-X will have matured enough to the point where 7 is now (more or less)

July 7, 2011 at 7:26 pmWell, I can finally see a way that X may actually be in my future.
If rumors are true and A) iPad HD is actually released this Fall, and B) the rumored accompanying pro App released with it is a tablet version of X, and C) EDL support is truly forthcoming, I can see owning iPad HD and X to do rough cuts when I’m on the go, that I can then finish up on Media Composer, FCP Studio, or Premiere.
That might just be useful. So, I guess never say never.

July 7, 2011 at 7:40 pmI’m not against this idea, as long as Apple still sees a place for traditional computing. Having FCP X on your iPad to work with footage in a very basic form would be great, especially if it’s painless to translate some rough assemblies to the full desktop version.
However, if they expect touchscreen-only interfaces in the future, I will not be a part of that.

July 7, 2011 at 7:45 pmMe neither. And this doesn’t lessen my anger at the EOLing of FCS. It is, though, the first time “Well, I suppose I could use that” and X have been in the same part of my brain at the same time.

July 7, 2011 at 8:29 pmsure sure sure….. and next thing you know, before you get on the plane home, your proxies are “in the cloud”, being rough-cut by an editor in Bangladesh, effects added by a chick in Moscow, and all that’s left for you to do when you’re back in the home suite is link up full rez media for conform.
but how the heck do you 1099 them? it’ll be a nightmare, I tell you….
(oh yeah, the most important bit of kit in the edit suite will be the Windex)

July 7, 2011 at 8:57 pmJesus, FCS scraped so they could do this? I dont understand this logic at all. Thanks for reinventing what no one asked for. And thanks for making me regret my career path with you.
I wear many hats.
