    …a very dumb question.

But I woke up last night thinking about it, and only have had one cup of coffee…

A client is bringing in a projects that includes a FW drive with DV files on it. Can I just directly import those into FCP4.5 or will they need to be converted to QT’s before import? Thanks.

No conversion necessary unless they are .dv files, then maybe the file extention may need to be renamed .mov

If they are .dv files, then I believe that means “DV Stream” format, which is what iMovie captures. Are these files from iMovie? FCP will import these without further conversion, but the audio portion is problematic – audio will have to be rendered, every time you make the slightest change. I think you could overcome this by exporting your timeline to a QT movie then bring it back in again.
