  • Thinking Particles wind effector… How to drag effect?

Posted by Jeremy Grubaugh on August 3, 2009 at 5:30 am

I am basically using MoGraph (matrix) to create particles that then blow away in the wind. All of the particles currently blow away at the same time but what I’m looking to do is drag the wind null object so that it effects only what it passes through (with falloff) similar to how the ‘step’ and ‘plain’ effectors work in MoGraph when the falloff shape is set to ‘linear’.

    Example:
in the beginning of this guys REEL you will see a cursor pass over a car as it turns to debris

this is similar to what I’m trying to acheive

    Working File:
Here is the file I am working on currently — wind is blowing and turbulent just need to control the effect.

    No love huh?

Well for those that might seek the answers

Here’s what I put together using a simple Explsion FX deformer.

Here is my first test file using mograph matrix to create the particles > then add a TP group change node with a collision effect > that then triggers the particle to be switched to ones that are then effected by the wind.

Still refining my TP example — looking to add more randomness. Still not organic enough.

Seems like you arrived at the same basic idea, but here’s a sample scene I put together: https://www.3danvil.com/tutorials/Falloff_Group%20Change02.c4d

I used a MoGraph Falloff node to direct the group change. You could use a noise node to add some particle weight/size variation, and or throw in some MoGraph effectors to make it more chaotic.

Hum? Noise node… I will check into that. Thanks for hooking me up.
