Thinking about Vegas 6 bundle…
Hi:
I’m new to this forum and figured this is the place to get the low down on Vegas.
Here’s where I’m coming from. I’ve used Avid Media Composer and currently use a DV Express system at work. (Tiny bit of experience 3 yrs ago on FCP 3)
I’ll be honest, a big reason I’m here is the price. I’m wanting to do more “creative” work for myself without needing to use my company equipment. I was considering a Pyro Premiere bundle in the $450-500 range but nobody is selling it anymore.
I’ve found a couple of places that have Vegas 6 with Acid 5 for $350 with 1394 card.
So here’s the deal:
Do you guys (and gals) like working with Vegas 6? Should it win my money just because of price or is it really a good product?
Is Acid 5 worth much or should I just get Adobe Audition for sound mixing and loop production?

Vegas may be comparitively cheap but it is fantastic value. It has many features that no other NLEs offer, and is IMO the most fluidly smooth program for editing. There are many Vegas users with experience with other programs – I used to use Premiere but wouldn’t dream of going back.
With Vegas you would not need Audition – it started life as an Audio only multi tracker and is in a class of its own in this respect.
The bundle you mentioned sounds good, but its worth also including DVDArchitect if DVD is likely to be your output medium. It dovetails beautifully with Vegas – you can set Markers in the Vegas Timeline and these will automatically become Chapters in your DVD.
Also, the Vegas community here and on other forums are extremely supportive and helpful.

Agree with Peter. Another thing to remember, though, is that the workflow is a little different in Vegas than what you’re used to in Avid/FCP. To get up to speed quickly, I also recommend that you click on the link under my name and look through the newsletters – especially the “Beginner’s Corner” series beginning in the 4th issue.
