    Thanks for your help!
Laying out a simple novel. I import text from Word and paste it in. The first sentence of each paragraph is indented at .5″ This is automatic. Note: Under the Paragraph settings, the First Line Left Indent is set to 0.

How do I change that First Line Left Indent to be .25″, not .5″?
I’ve checked everything and read Adobe manuals, but I have not found a solution.

    Many thanks!

Step One: Don’t copy-paste Word documents into InDesign, they come with too much garbage. Import them instead, which cleans out most of the unnecessary formatting.

Step Two: If that alone doesn’t handle it, use the Remove Overrides button on the Paragraph Style palette.

Step Three: If the problem persists, create a whole new paragraph format with the desired formatting, apply “none” and then the new formatting.
