When editing 4K footage(in Premiere), even in a 1080 timeline, I have been experiencing what I believe are Thermal Shutdowns on my iMacPro 2017. It happens mostly when trying to export sequences via Media Encoder. Both monitors go dark, the illuminated keyboard goes dark. I can wake up the computer by tapping the keyboard, but my storage server has been disconnected and PP is locked up. Its not a full shutdown, but a complete re-start is needed. I’ve actually taken to hanging a soft freezer pack on the back of the iMac, and that seems to let me get the sequence encoded without a “thermal shutdown”.

SO, I am considering abandoning the iMac Pro for a Mac Studio. I am wondering how Premiere is behaving, especially 4K, on a Mac Studio. I don’t mind the $3K or so for the Mac Studio, but I really don’t want to fork over the minimum 8K or so for a Mac Pro tower. Anybody happy editing 4K with a Mac Studio, running two monitors, a 5k and a 4K?
