    Hi,

I’m accustomed to Premiere’s way of volume control on a sound clip. But I’d like to use Vegas more than in the past. Maybe someone can clear up the following…

In Vegas, if I type V, the sound adjust blue line is for every clip on the track. Is it possible to make this only to effect one selected clip? It sure would save time in the type of editing I generally do.

After you have changed the volume, hit V to hide the line again. Your changes are saved. It’s a feature, not a bug. Enjoy!

On the blue line a double click will create a small square at that point. Do this at the start and end of the piece you want to adjust and move the blue line up or down using your mouse. This will confine the adjustment to this area. A second set of double clicks at each end near your original points will allow you to fade the volume in our out.

If you want to control the audio volume for a specific event only, you can drag down the volume level as follows (from Vegas help under “Adjusting an audio event’s volume”):

Hover over the top of an audio event.

When you see the envelope cursor ( ), drag the volume line to the desired level. As you drag the line, the event’s gain is displayed in dB.

I use this often to “mute” a particular audio events without deleting the event or using volume envelope points

    Thanks for the replies…

I guess I didn’t explain what I was looking for well enough. In PPro, I can place volume up and down adjustment points completely independent of disturbing any other clips on the same track’s timeline — and without any special forethought or effort. That seems impossible in Vegas.

Presumably with PPro you are animating the clip (event) volume and not the track volume. From the comments it appears Vegas Pro doesn’t have Event volume animation. I use Vegas Movie Studio so cannot check but VMS doesn’t have this nor any means of animating audio FX.

You can at least “lower” the volume on a specific event independent of any other event in the project. Simply left click, hold and drag down from the upper center of an event. Pull it down. It works like a window shade. You can do the same for video in regards to “lowering” the opacity.

As I said, I use this to “mute” a specific event in a hurry without disturbing anything else.

OK Thanks. Just so I don’t keep looking for something that’s unlikely to exist. 🙂
