    Hi,

I’m wondering what everyone is using in the field for recording devices at weddings for sound in post-production?

I started using MiniDisc recorders quite a while ago and they still serve me well. These days, there are a lot of solid-state devices such as the iRiver products.

I use iRiver. BTW only the now discontinued 7xx and 8xx series had remote mic recording capability. I use a mic from Giant Squid – works great as a back up.

Is there a website that sells this product? I’m looking for a DAT recorder for event and field work to mix in with B Roll images.

I use a Marantz PDM660. It’s great in the field, has 2 XLR inputs, no moving parts and records to a CF card. At MPEG-2 Mono I can get about 35 hours on a 1gb CF card. Of course it goes down from there.

It’s a great backup recorder and I just drop the CF card into my editing machine and transfer the files. No capturing.

I use the Marantz also. I showed it to a pro sound guy and he bought one. It will run on GOOD rechargeable batteries (2500 or 2700) and have them available on long days.

    Hi Jerry,

Are you using the same model Marantz PDM660?
You stated: (It will run on GOOD rechargeable batteries (2500 or 2700) and have them available on long days)
    What’s the brand?

    Thanks,

    Hiya Ralph

I just use regular AA batteries. Cheap and don’t have to worry about chargers. Used it at a seminar in Reno back in March. 3 days 8 hours a day and only changed batteries once or twice.

Also look around for deals. Where I got it from, they gave me a free carrying case. Google it and check.
