First a question, then a tale to help enlighten others who may be having the same issue.

Is there any way to change the mpeg2 settings for SD footage in the nxcam so that it records lower frame first?

    Now the tale.
The NTSC DV template in Vegas uses lower field first. The NXCAM footage I have shot is all upper field first. If you don’t make sure you have the ‘conform footage to project settings’ checkbox selected in your vegas project properties, you will get horrendous interlace flicker with horizontal motion.
And apparently that checkbox defaults to unchecked in Vegas 10, whereas every previous version that I have installed in my facility (I have 6, 8, 9, and 10 on various systems) seems to default to checked.
So if you’re using SD mpeg2 footage from the NXCAM in an NTSC DV project in vegas 10, you might check your project preferences to make sure that checkbox is checked.
