    Howdy,

Has anyone read any speed info or benchmarks on the new MacPros?

I’m using it to do REDRushes and Color rendering.

Right now I’m using 2x3GHz Quadcore Xeon / 8GB Ram..

    thx!

“The slowest 8-core 2009 Mac Pro (2.26GHz) is faster than the fastest 8-core Mac Pro (3.2GHz). ”

Recent postings on REDUser, including one from the big cheese, suggest that a top of the line 2.93Ghz new Mac Pro will be TWICE as fast at processing R3Ds as the last gen. I’d post a link here, but the Cow and REDUser don’t get on…

Of course – they do cost twice the money…. I prefer two machines, one of which I can actually work on whilst the other is processing. Just depends on your specific workflow.

You asked a very general and vague question, hence my vague and general response. It all depends on what you want to do, some things are way faster, other things are actually slower. Do a search, you’ll find places like barefeats.com and a bunch of others that have all the tests and charts.

    Hi Ben,

Yeah, I saw that post, not much data.. but pretty encouraging though. I didn’t know Red and Cow didn’t like each other. Fascinating, why?

    thx,
    Chris
