The Mysterious Second
I did a 1 minute 11 sec project in After Effects using video highlights being shown on a calendar. I rendered the final project and imported it into Avid Xpress v5.7 and noticed that the cuts to the music were slightly off near the end of the video. Upon further investigation, I discovered that the clip was a full second longer than it was supposed to be. I imported the same clip into Final Cut and everything was fine which leads me to believe that I have a frame rate setting wrong in Avid. I’ve gone through all the menus and can’t seem to fix it. Anybody have any suggestions?

I’m guessing that either your after effects comp or your avid sequence is set to drop frame timecode while the other is set to non-drop frame.

I’ve checked both settings and they are both drop frame.

Did you cut to music in AE? What was the sample rate of the music? I’m geussing it was 44.1. Avid defaults to 48k. Try changing the Avid audio project setting to 44.1 and reimport the file.

Drop frame vs non drop would not create a full second difference in the space of a minute. For future reference, drop frame code drops the numbers at the start of each minute except for the even hours and the 10, 20, 30, 40 and 50 minute mark.
Are you sure your not rendering out at a slightly different frame rate? Or as Jon suggests, did you move the audio through the chain?
