I have a beta record PVW2800 deck, so I have to consider that too. and so that is why I went with the la. I can still capture component betacam footage to any codec I want through the LA and use the KONA 2 with whcihever codec I choose. Thanks.

Gentlemen,
In reading the response to the HD/SD cost issue and buying a Kona2 card instead of an IO if very little work is being done in HD, I find Bob Zelin’s answer a little accusatory. I spent considerable time debating which way to go as far as the video input card is concerned. I looked at Blackmagic,Aurora & Digital Voodoo before deciding on AJA products, but I bought the Kona 2 because it’s the only card that I am aware of right now that upconverts from SD to HD in real time. The JVC engineer, with whom I spoke informed me that the SD signal upconverts exceedingly well to HD and has even been upconverted to projected 35mm film as an experiment, and also does quite well. Yes I know D9 isn’t state of the art, but it was a large outlay initially so I’d like to get some longevity out of it. I have a true 16×9 image in the viewfinder, add a black net over the back of the lens, some ND filters, warm cards, good lighting, loose compression, decks that can output a 10 bit signal, a video card that upconverts in real time, and a computer that can output an HD DVD, and some software, and I don’t have to see my bank manager for a while.
The other reason I went with AJA?
They were the only people who answered the phone!
