“I buy an iPhone for $499, less than a week later they announce the 3G for $299. “- James Roberts

Dude if you bought the previous iPhone the week before the 3G came out that’s your own fault, everyone including my grandma knew Apple was about to announce the new phone weeks if not months before the 3G came out.

[James Roberts] “Early 06-I buy a fully Loaded 20″ iMac, then they introduce the 24″

    This year-I buy a 1GB iPod shuffle for $79, less than a week later there’s a 2 GB model for $69

I buy an iPhone for $499, less than a week later they announce the 3G for $299.”

James, you obviously live way to close to the Apple Store and your mommy should have told you that Apple products are not impulse items like the candy bars near the grocery store checkout counter.

Re-read his statement. He said they announced the iPhone the following week, not released it.

Irregardless, complaining about Apple announcing / releasing new hardware is useless because it’s a continuing cycle. You buy something today and know that it will obsolete in at least 6 months, probably sooner. This is why we’re paid professionals and I figure 12 months of use out of a computer is fine because it has been paid for about 50 times over before those 12 months are up.

Re- read my statement, everyone knew about the new iPhone before Apple announced it. CNN, Fox, even Good Morning America covered the story before Apple made the official announcement.

If your wanting good Apple news before it happens Appleinsider.com or Macrumors.com are good to goto.

You mean the same sites that have announced “Final Cut Extreme” prior to the past two NAB conventions? Speculation is one thing, having Apple announce it is different. Those sites are wrong as often as they are correct.

Don’t mind David, James — he’s obviously JEALOUS.

Of course that’s true. But, I also bought my iPhone for $199 and was able to spend the other $300 on a new Taylormade driver.

I’m 47 and I lost both my parents a few years ago, so let’s never mind the mommy bits. In fact, I work about a block from an Apple store, but I seldom go in. I’m not an early adopter type, I like to wait until the bugs are out and early problems are solved. I dragged my feet for nearly a year on the iPhone. And if you look at the phrasing I used, I said I bought it a week before they “announced” the new one, not released it. I would have waited if I knew about it.

I was just relating how many times I’ve had bad timing when I finally decided to buy something, then the deal gets better a week later. I don’t have a personal tech guru telling me “don’t buy the shuffle right now, I hear a new one’s coming out”, so I’ve felt a little burned at times.

I figured it would be something people using Final Cut might relate to, but instead I just feel a bit singed. Never mind…

Oh, come on James. You seemed to find the humor in your own foibles, so I did too. I was just poking fun, there was no desire to singe intended.

James there are folks on these forums who type first, think second, thinking they’re being funny. Sometimes they come out sharper than you’d expect. Sorry you feel that way about the comment directed towards you, hopefully you’ll be back when you need help with FCP.
