How can I find out what the problem is? I tried to render a 30 minute Quicktime in 800×600, 25fpx, square pixels. The program (HD Platinum 10) rendered for several hours and finally presented me an error message that basically said “an error occurred; the file could not be created” – not more than that. I tried it on two computers (XP and Vista) with two different projects and lots of disc space. The error occurred both times. I need to render these projects but have no idea now what I can do.

You didn’t say what QuickTime codec you are using. QuickTime renders need at least twice the file space. What Vegas does with QuickTime is render to a temporary file and then copy that file to the final file. It sounds like the copy if failing because of not enough disk space.

I would render one minute of video. Look at the file size and multiply that by 30 and that is about what the final file size should be for 30 minutes. Now multiply that by 2 and this is how much free hard disk space you will need on the drive you are rendering to. Make sure you have that much space (or more).
