    Hi there,

so, finally, I completed my first project with PPro 5.5.

We shot on EX3 with Letus Ultimate and recorded on SxS cards in 720p25. The material was imported without any problem in PPRo 5.5 and the editing was really nice. As usual many issues only appear during work. Just the technical stuff: MacPro Quad 2.66 / 12GB Ram / Sonnet Raid / Blackmagic HD Extreme 3D.
    What I´ve encountered was:

    1. during work there is a point when the audio isn´t sync any more (meaning: where the timeline marker is and what you acutally hear). I closed the project, opened it again and it was sync again.

    2. editing clips in the timeline (like trimming, expanding, etc.) – you see how many frames you trim, but you don´t see the actual clip length. This should be implemented, because sometimes you need to know the length of the clip and not only how many frames you trim (which is also great to see).

    3. masks: feathering is missing! 🙂

    4. dissolves (video and audio) should be able to apply by right mouse click or something like that. If it´s possible, I haven´t seen it…dragging it from the effects window makes things a little slower during work.

    5. what about Auto-Patching like in Avid? 🙂

    6. in the source/viewer window: when you play a clip and set during playback in´s and out´s the playback is holding for the split of a second which is quite annoying. Like in FCP or Avid the playback shouldn´t be interrupted by IN/OUT. You want the playback smooth (maybe listening to the audio track) and concentrate on that image or sound.

    7. while trimming it would be great to have the option to press IN during playback and bring the edit point to that position

    8. sometimes PPro freezed within playback. Having a uncompressed 8bit codec sequence it played the first seconds, then stopped. when playing again it played the complete project without problems from that point. There where also some stops with XDCam EX Clips that have been retimed.

    9. ah, retiming…more features please (interpolation, etc.) 🙂

Hmm, I need to look at the project again for some other issues I´ve forgotten now 🙂

XML Export to Color worked not out, but XML to FCP to Color to FCP to PPro was ok 🙂

There are a couple of things to be improved but in general PPro is nice to work with. Hopefully in CS6 most of the generally discussed issues are reworked/fixed 🙂

    BTW, here is the result:

    Hey Rafael,

Really nice work. I enjoyed the piece quite a bit.

Just in terms of smoothness of operation concerns, I’ll likely pin that on the compression format of material you were editing and the fact that you’ve introduced a capture card into your configuration. This is not a certainty, but rather my inference based on other posts I’ve seen here.

    Mechanically:
“4. dissolves (video and audio) should be able to apply by right mouse click or something like that. If it´s possible, I haven´t seen it…dragging it from the effects window makes things a little slower during work.”

This can easily be mapped to keyboard shortcuts of your choosing. If you are using the PPro hot keys, I believe it’s Cntrl (CMD) D and Ctrl (CMD) Shift D.

“while trimming it would be great to have the option to press IN during playback and bring the edit point to that position”

If you double click a clip on the timeline to load the edit to the source viewer, you can do exactly this in the source viewer and the change is reflected immediately on the timeline.

Additionally, you could also use and Extend edit command to help you with this:
    see this:
    https://blogs.adobe.com/kevinmonahan/2011/01/10/using-the-extend-edit-function-in-adobe-premiere-pro-cs5/

Again, nice work. Hopefully you will find some of this useful.

    Thank you, guys!

I´ve submitted the requests – thank you for the link!

    @Alex

I´ll check out your tips tomorrow – thank you! And thank´s for the kind words on the film.

Aaaah, sweet 🙂 Thank you! That works fine.

Ok, I see. This does not exactly what I thought of. E.g. you select an editpoint in the timeline and you want to match that edit point on an accent of music. Then (in FCP) you select that point where clip A meets clip B press play and hit IN at some point during playback – the editpoint will be changed to that point where you´d hit IN.

Because you cannot select editpoints in PPro like you can in FCP some things work a bit different, but may it works similar?

Are you saying that with edits back to back…

if you press IN, it rolls the edit (tail and head at the edit point) to your in point?

WOn’t the extend I mentioned do something similar?

OK….. I think the part I’m missing is that you are doing this dynamically during playback?

either one of my methods likely require you to stop playback. (I think)…

Exactly – dynamic is the keyword 🙂

What works in some way is using “E” or “SHIFT+E”, but it´s not the same.

    Agreed.

Without being able to select trim points as objects, this would be difficult to implement.

Yes, so…the next feature request! 🙂
