The device could not be found
I need help quick!
I have been looking at posts like these all days; I’ve done all the tricks thus far–it just need some professional help here.
I am trying to capture hd video onto sony vegas 8 with my sony hdr-fx7…everytime i capture it, though, a box that says, “the device ‘sony hdr-fx7’ could not be opened”, appears. My cam is set to hdv mode, and my cam is showing in the video, sound, and gaming menu under device management.
Help would be appreciated!

Yep. It’s in VCR mode.

Are you using Vegas’ external Vidcap or the internal HDV capture application.When you click on capture it ask which you want use. For HDV you must select HDV.

Well, I found some stuff on the external vs internal stuff from some other posts; and I haven’t been able to find out if my vegas is set up for internal or external…I do NOT get an option for HDV or external; I just get a box that says “the device ____ can not be found”…

Vegas can handle both. How is your camera connected – iLink (firewire) or USB?
Can you post the exact steps you take to setup capture?

Yes sir;
I first pull up sony vegas, and then click on the “capture” button. Then I plug my firewire into my camera and computer. I then turn my camera to “VCR” mode; and that’s when vegas gives me the warning box.

You need to have all the gear connected correctly before you start up Vegas.Try that and see how you go.

For some reason vegas won’t let me connect the way you said…I have to bring up vegas, then turn on the camera…but, you said something earlier that got me to thinking. I didn’t have my “ilink conversion” set to “on”…I set it to “on”, and now it’s working.
