At first glance — especially for non-experts — this news might seem like a major leap forward for Blender in the world of artificial intelligence. The Claude connection appears to enable AI-powered control of the entire program. However, after testing it and comparing it to alternatives, it becomes clear that what’s actually happening is simpler: Claude converts your prompt into a Python script and then runs it in Blender, much like what any of us could do manually with other software. The real convenience here is that it saves you the trouble of copying and pasting the script yourself.

The downside is that you can’t access or edit the generated script (which matters if you’re comfortable with Python) in case something goes wrong — something you’d be able to do if you generated the script yourself and pasted it in manually.

I recently came across a YouTube video that explains this point brilliantly, which I’ve linked below. It does have some distracting background music, though, so I’ve also uploaded a version with that removed.

I’d love to hear your thoughts on this.

    Hey Kouraib,

You make a really good point.

I am not sure that I agree with CG Toon, not least as he is using a poor persons version of slow moving music, that would fit a 1980’s arcade machine. And, he is a self-confessed beginner with Blender, so not sure that he is there, yet.

Setting that aside, there is A.I., and then there is A.I..

Question is: Are you using Generative A.I. because you are not creative enough, or too lazy to put in the work? (Using ‘you’ <strong jsaction=”” jscontroller=”zYmgkd#vvzi1e” data-sfc-root=”ep” jsuid=”BnmFO_19″ data-sfc-cb=”” data-complete=”true” data-copy-service-computed-style=”font-family: "Google Sans", Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 700; margin: 0px; text-decoration: none; border-bottom: 0px rgb(10, 10, 10);”>figuratively here, not targeting you specifically.)

Or, are you using Functional A.I. as a way of taking care of repetitive tasks, or as way of using Vibe Coding, without having to learn Python as one example?

Although Coding is a language that most people can learn, there is the barrier of spending enough time to get experienced v just wanting to be creative.

And, as most of the top tools in our industry is now including direct access to your favourite A.I., then there is hard choices to be made between being purist, and that of increasing the output and publish more.

The “hidden” problem with most A.I. is that you can quickly make yourself poor, or run out of “tokens”, when using the big A.I. engines such as Claude. Which in itself is a barrier.

Personally I favour any A.I. that I can run on my local computer, Topaz for now, is one of those. Until Adobe will kill it off…

Should add that HumbleBundle, my favourite go to for quirky games, books and “software” currently have a 17 course bundle in using Claude A.I. for Blender at a minimum total of £26,72.
I haven’t tried it, but sharing in case someone wants to learn more + support the “Girls who Code” charity:

Thank you, Mads, for enriching the discussion — your appreciation of my perspective is greatly valued. Yes, as you pointed out, this falls under a larger topic: why and how we use artificial intelligence. That said, I always prefer to discuss this with others, because I worry it might skew my evaluation the assumption I’m subconsciously biased toward professionals designers who see AI tools as intruders that try to blurring the line between those who’ve earned their professional status through hard work, dedication, and talent, and those who only know the field superficially.

I’ll try to explore this idea more thoroughly in a separate post in the coming days, when I have the chance. I hope others will share their opinions on this topic as it relates to Blender, especially those who might see things differently, because I want to check the problem of not being able to modify the script that was created via Claude Connect.

    Thank you again, Mads!
