The best recording setting for DVD and HD DVD
Hi,
I’m purchasing an HVX-200 next month and wanted to know what would be the best recording setting for my work.
I’m shooting content for both standard DVDs and HD DVDs. I’m going to shoot 1080p, but was wondering if there
are any benefits to shooting 1080p 24p over 1080p 30p. If you shoot 24p, does the lower frame rate allow for more
content to fit on a DVD than if I shot 30p? Does 24p look better than 30p, or vice versa (I wouldn’t think there would
be a difference). Disc space is important to me, so if 24p can take up less space on a DVD compared to 30p, that would be great.
My workflow will be to record on P2 cards and edit using Final Cut Pro, convert to mpeg using quicktime and authoring
to DVD Studio Pro 4 to a DVD 9 for both the DVD and HD DVD formats (with DVD naturally being downconverted to SD from 1080p). -

On the HVX recording at 1080 24p, 24pA or 30p is the same
as far as time on the cards.
Now editing at 24p and encoding for 24p
will save space on the DVD.
Try a test…
30p will look more video like…
For best results shoot 1080 24pA
and remove the pulldown when importing. -
