  • Texturing large landscapes in Cinema 4d

    I’m doing a lot of outdoor renders for some wind energy concepts at work. This involves wind turbines outdoors. I have not issues making a large landscape, bu believably texturing it is a different story. Is there an easy way to get a good broken up texture on a large scale plane and make it look good? I’m very familiar with UV mapping in C4D and making textures in PS, but I just can’t find a way to make a good, believable scene. I have MANY scenes I need to do with this outdoor landscape, weeks of work in fact. If I can only get one good landscape I’d be set here at work for a while.

    Camera projection can really be a great tool for this type of thing.
    Are you looking at a high level of detail?

    I did see a tutorial on that a minute ago in my search, but it looks quite complex for my application. It’s doesn’t need to be super photoreal, just good enough to use in a few scenes with the wind turbines. I tried using body paint but that just gives me the colors. I do plan on going through the camera mapping tutorial but not right at the moment as I have a lot of graphics and animations to put out at work this week. I also looked at that landscape procedural shader package and it looked very nice, just need a solution that doesn’t cost extra $$$ right now.

    I did this one a couple years ago. It is only procedural. I did it with the layer option in the material.
    Its like 6 or 7 different noise layered and I used Fall Off to get the coastline.
    The little cities are also noise but on a seperate material layered over the first one. You can get about 50% closer before you start seeing the lack of detail…. if I remember right. It was also made for a wind turbine visualization.

    The scenes I’ll be doing are pretty ground level camerawise. So they’d have to have decent detail. I have just started playing around with the 3d paint and layered material for color and it’s playing out pretty well. I’ll try that camera mapping when I get home and off work. That looks pretty interesting and useful. Thanks
