texturing a video display made w/mograph cloner
Posted by Mmhmichael on March 6, 2007 at 1:06 amso i’ve made a 10×10 ‘wall’ of panels using the mograph grid array cloner, and i want to texture it so that the whole set of panels acts as one large video display — i want to apply a texture to the entire set of cloned panels, and not just have it appear individually on each panel. any tips on how i could do this? thanks,
-mike

March 6, 2007 at 9:55 amYou map the cloner like any other object. You just have to use a flat projection. UVW mapping does not work as it has a different meaning in MoGraph. Make sure to enable the “Fix Texture” option in the Cloner.

March 6, 2007 at 10:18 pmHi there,
This is kinda a classic thing that everybody wants to do at some point……( maybe a good tutorial from Mylenium?????)
Anyway, Im trying what Mylenium suggested and somethings not working. Flat projection creates long vertical streaks. Uvw creats the image on each pannel individually. (and frontal is like looking through a window)
This happens weather the material( .mov applied to a texture in color channel) is applied to the pannel (a flattened cube) or the cloner. (grid array) or a parent null for that matter.
The fix texture box is checked, but I think thats needed for animating the effectors, Im still trying to get my video clip to lay across an array of flat squares and look right.any Ideas??????????

By default it will always project along the Z axis which of course is unsuitable for a grid in XZ direction, if you know what I mean. Use the “Fit to object” option in the object manager and include all sub-objects (your clones). If you’re still getting streaks, check the filtering options and the UV behavior near the edges. You may wish to turn of the “tile” option. I would also advise to use an image sequence as opposed to a MOV. this will speed up screen refresh and also avoid potential errors due to decoding frames from a video file.

March 8, 2007 at 7:15 amMograph is a great and fun tool, I use it almost daily. But you dont need it to do a videowall.
