  • Texture or Bump Map in A. Kramer’s Blue Planet?

Posted by Tom Edison on February 5, 2008 at 3:59 am

    Hello all,
I recently watched and used Andrew Kramer’s Blue Planet tutorial and created some awesome results. However, I noticed that in some of his follow up tutorials, such as the Zoom Into Earth, his blue planet Earth has some phenomenal texturing, e.g. the shadows of the Rocky Mountains and ripples in the Pacific Ocean. The included BP project files do not yield such results so I wonder if there is a some kind of map used, either bump or texture? Any ideas or suggestions as to how I can obtain the same realism? It looks phenomenal and that’s what I want!

    AE Pro 6.5
    Thanks,
    Tom

That earth was created in a 3D program. It is difficult to get those results in AE alone.

    Mr. Kramer,
Thank you for your response! 3D program?! Drat! I should have known. The Blue Planet still yields incredible results w/ or w/o 3D texturing. Thank you.

Well… in fact you can do that in AE alone… to some extend of course. It will never be as cool as it might be out of a 3D package, but still you can get away with it. Depends on what you’re looking for.

Funny thing, but after Mr. Kramer’s tutorial a lot of people were asking me about exact same thing. So I decided I’ll record a tutorial on that. I just don’t know when… I’m being pretty busy right now.

But if you need to know this right away you may call me up on skype: https://maltaannon.com/maltaannons-hotline/ or leave a skype text message.
