    Once upon a time I had a plug in for AE that would animate text like it was being typed on the screen and you could easily add a blinking (or not) insertion bar or a square so it looked more like a screen capture.

    Does that still exist somewhere? Is there an easy way to do that in the newest version?

    Put the following code into the Sourcetext expression. Use a slider to animate n.
    Isn’t that easy?

    n=8;
    showtext=text.sourceText.substr(0,n)+”_”;

    Thanks! I’m almost there. I’ve been using Motion for so long that I don’t know how to add a slider and animate the N value for expressions.

    (My knowledge of expressions is VERY limited)

    nevermind. I figured it out. Man, I wish I still had that old plug in. It did blinking cursors and everything including randomizing the amount of time between keystrikes.

    Almost makes me want to fire up my old G3 to see if it’s still installed on there.
