I have created some simple titles and now want to use them in another project. Is there any way they can be saved as “Templates” to be used again. I am a little unsure where and how text objects exist in FCP. Properties say they are “stills” but do they actually exist other than as instructions within a saved project.

I have come from a system which used Inscriber as a title generator and am familiar with being able to find stuff reasonably easily in folders and directories.

I find the easiest way to re-use text is just to copy it from one sequence to another. This can be done between projects as well, since FCP allows you to keep multiple projects open.

To do it, just start a sequence in a new project (maybe called text templates.) Make your templates and lay them down in a timeline. I suppose if you want a way of indexing them, you could create a different sequence for each template and give it a meaningful name.

From then on, just open this project along side your current project, select the text segments you want, copy them and paste them into your new timeline, then double-click them and edit in the new text.

Obviously if you want something more elaborate, you’d probably want to look at Live Type.
